The Traveling Tot

Gianna experienced her first plane ride on July 28, 2011 at 10 weeks old! I know call us crazy, but we figured a 1 hour plane ride would be less torture than an 8+ hour drive. We flew to San Francisco, CA and proceeded to drive to Santa Rosa, CA. Daniel competed in his 3rd Ironman distance (Vineman) triathlon.

Gia did GREAT, both on the plane, in the hotel and the entire day of the event. She was such a trooper! She was not the greatest about sticking to her napping schedule on the actual day of the race, but who could blame her she didn't want to miss the occasional kiss from daddy as he ran by during the marathon.

If we said that we were not nervous about traveling with a newborn, we would be lying. We were both a little uneasy about it, but it turned out to be easier than expected! Here is a picture at the finish line.... after an 11 hr, 35 min and 46 sec day!

So, after all that travel with a 10 week old you would think we were ready for a little R&R....and we were. But we couldn't relax in our own backyard- that would be too easy. We were off to Rosarito, Mexico!

Again, we were nervous to be taking an "international trip" with an infant (11 weeks), but we planned ahead and packed up the necessities (thanks mom for bringing the swing) and we were off. Getting to Rosarito was a breeze, and once we were there we had all the time in the world to walk on the beach, play in the ocean and enjoy the sun (Gianna participated in all of the above).

The drive back across the border was giving us the most anxiety mostly due to the long wait at the border. Luckily, we had been given a tip: if you spend $40 on a meal at one of the local restaurants, you can receive a "fast pass" that allows you to cut the border traffic line, all these years, who would have guessed? So armed with a full bottle, our fast pass, Gia's birth certificate, and our dogs we started the trip home. It went well, the traffic was not bad at all, and again, Gianna was a trooper!

We plan to stay put for a few weeks...our next out of town adventure with the "traveling tot" is Lake Arrowhead with her cousins Carson Lefebvre and Warren Haynes!
